The key to a good interview is good preparation!
Before your telephone interview or face-to-face interview you should think about the questions that you may be asked. Research thoroughly the company you have applied to, and be aware of the industry issues and news in which the company operates. Speak with your recruitment consultant (if applicable) to ensure that you are fully briefed on the particular job for which you are to be interviewed.
Dress appropriately and aim to arrive in plenty of time for your interview -bearing in mind you may need time to find the building where your interview will take place.
Review your CV and anticipate areas where the interviewer may wish to ask further questions on your experience.
The following questions are a guide in order to help you prepare for interview by thinking about your responses to questions which could be asked of you.
- Why do you want this job? (What attracts you to this position? What relevant experience do you have for this position?)
- Why did you leave/do you want to leave your current job? (Never criticise or make derogatory comments regarding your current or last employer. It can present a negative impression of you).
- What have you learnt from your previous jobs?
- What qualities/skills do you think will be required for this job?
- What can you contribute? (Think about your achievements relevant to the post?)
- Why do you want to work for the employer?
- What do you know about the employer?
- What are your long-term career aspirations?
- What are your strengths?
- What are your weaknesses? (Try and turn these into strengths).
- Why should the airline offer you this position?
- Describe the most difficult problem you’ve had to deal with? How did you tackle it?
- Give me an example of you working in a team and how you interacted with the other team/pilot members?
Try and keep your answers to the point and maintain good eye contact with the interviewer(s) to project your confidence.
It is usual to be offered the opportunity to ask questions at the end of the interview. Asking questions will make you look interested and proactive. Typical questions could be…..
- Can you describe a typical day?
- What would be the size of the team in which I could be working?
- What are the working hours?
- What are the growth opportunities with the company?
- What promotion opportunities are there?
- How might the role develop?
